After 3 years of cooperation, THURISAZ has decided to part ways with Hardebaran, their management. The cooperation has been ended in a tranquil way, and the band wishes them all the best for the future.

C’est toujours un plaisir de chroniquer un groupe belge, car ils ne sont pas tellement nombreux à percer finalement, et c’est encore plus agréable lorsqu’il s’agit d’un groupe de grande qualité. Thurisaz a commencé ses activités en 1997 et « Circadian rythm » est son second opus. J’espère que ce sera celui de la révélation, car tout est parfaitement en place ! Thurisaz offre un métal à multiples facettes, qui puise ses sources dans le doom moderne, le death, le black sympho, le gothique principalement, et sans doute aussi le dark prog pour en faire quelque chose de tout à fait personnel... et ça marche à fond ! Tempos souvent moyens mais avec une certaine complexité rythmique, arrangements de claviers symphoniques et piano sobres et efficaces, incrustations de guitares acoustiques, chant masculin (uniquement !) en tous genres (death, black et clair) de qualité constante, atmosphères douces amères, épiques ou plus vindicatives, voilà quelques caractéristiques du style de mes compatriotes. Pour citer des groupes, imaginez un melting pot de Saturnus, Ensiferum, Crematory, Evergrey, Tristania, avec une pointe de couteau de Cradle of Filth, et vous aurez une petite idée. Le style est donc plus qu’intéressant, et les chansons ne le sont pas moins : rien n’est à jeter, l’inspiration est présente de la première à la dernière note, cette musique est chargée d’émotion, elle sonne particulièrement vrai. Tout cela pourrait tomber complètement à plat si la production était moyenne, mais il n’en est rien, le son est clair et puissant, tous les instruments ressortent bien et chaque nuance est parfaitement rendue. A noter la présence sur un titre (« Point of no return ») de notre Thijs Vanneste national (chanteur d’Oceans of Sadness). « Circadian Rythm » est d’une richesse énorme, et mérite votre écoute, alors faites vous plaisir et achetez-le : c’est l’album belge de l’année !!!

Belgian atmospheric dark metallers Thurisaz have quickly grown since the release of their legendary "Scent Of a Dream" promo in 2004. Now, some three years later the band returns with "Circadian Rhythm" - an album that is sure to establish them as a relevant competitor within the European dark metal genre. Taking cues from the dark -, doom - and atmospheric metal genres Thurisaz interpretation is at once accessible, moody and always melodic. The vocal harmonies - done by 4 of the band's 5 members - from their "Scent Of a Dream" release remain intact but have grown exponentially in scale, complexity and execution. The synthesizers still form a prominent factor in the band's sound yet somehow never dominate the whole. At this point one could describe Thurisaz as a combination of "Like Gods Of the Sun" era My Dying Bride, early Opera IX and a bit of "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" era Dimmu Borgir. Yet never does Thurisaz intent to sound evil or diabolic like the latter two acts intend with their sound, they create a sense of epic atmosphere similar to "The Knowing" era Novembers Doom or any of the works by Opeth. 'Point Of No Return' is the band's signature track on this record and easily the most recognizable of the material present on this disc. The track features a vocal guest appearance by Tijs Vanneste from that other well-known Belgian dark metal act Oceans Of Sadness. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered at CCR Studios in Zulte, Belgium and comes with the studio's expected high quality production. Artwork and lay-out are a big step up from their debut promo. Once again, in this department the works of later Opeth and Travis Smith come to mind. Do yourself a favour and pick this record up. Fans of dark, atmospheric, doom and even gothic metal will find something to their liking on "Circadian Rhythm". The most promising release on Shiver Records so far.

Band's growth is visible in every aspect of this album, from complexity of compositions through production to artwork and layout everything is taken to the next level. For those unfamiliar with their sound the closest description would be atmospheric black/death with doom and gothic elements thrown in for a good measure. Actually if it wasn't for harsh vocals musically they have more in common with melodic doom than aggressive black or death bands. On tracks like 'Falling', 'Fading Dreams' or 'Past Perfect' clean vocals and song structures remind me more of Opeth and My Dying Bride rather than more aggressive counterparts of this genre. Even when Thurisaz turns it up a notch those faster songs are never too intense yet always accessible, moody and melodic. With "Circadian Rhythm" our Belgian quintet establishes themselves as a force to be reckoned with and don't be surprised if their new album (3 years from now) gets straight 10s all the way from top to bottom on our scale.

This month Thurisaz has finished their 100th concert, supporting Novembers Doom in Biebob (Belgium). Some more are planned for the end of this year. The band is currently negotiating shows for a new international tour!!! More info as soon as possible!

Some good news:
Shiver Records will re-release Scent of a Dream, the debut album of Thurisaz!!! The album was sold out for quite some time and was previously never officially distributed. To celebrate the re-release the album will contain an acoustic live version of "Years Of Silence" as bonustrack. Officially available mid April! Shiver Records will re-release Scent of a Dream, the debut album of Thurisaz!!! The album was sold out for quite some time and was previously never officially distributed. To celebrate the re-release the album will contain an acoustic live version of "Years Of Silence" as bonustrack. Officially available mid April! Wat nieuws uit het Thurisaz front!!
Graag stellen we jullie onze nieuwe bassist Hannes Leroy voor! Na de eerste maanden intensieve repetities kunnen we stellen dat Hannes zich helemaal heeft kunnen vormen binnen Thurisaz! Hij leerde de nieuwe nummers en gaf een extra dimentie bij het schrijven van onze nieuwe nummers! Het is een waar genoegen samen muziek te maken met Hannes in het nieuwe thurisaztijdpperk.
Hannes kun je voor het eerst aan het werk zien op 20 februari in de Briepompe in Wervik!
Wij kunnen ook onze nieuwe Ierland-tour aan jullie voorstellen:
