Zeker een gave schijf!
Het begint al gelijk goed met all the love in the world.
Een stevige rock cd met sexy dance gevoel.Overigens heb ik niet echt het idee dat deze cd nieuw is.
Ik bedoel, het is toch 10 jaar geleden sinds zn laatste album (the fragile) dus ik had wat meer progressie verwacht, een vernieuwend iets.
En al zou ik het met een van zn albums moeten vergelijken zou het the downward spiral zijn. Het meest popi jopie album van NIN.
Hoe dan ook , gave plaat.!

The Fragile is van 6 jaar terug en Trent Reznor is nooit zo snel geweest met nieuwe albums uitbrengen. Na het live album All that could have been uit 2002 heeft meneer afgekikt van verschillende verslavingen en dat is hem ook gelukt. Inderdaad jammer dat het (in tegenstelling tot de vorige albums) niet echt vernieuwend is, maar het is een hele lekkere plaat. Vooral All the love in the world, The hand that feeds, Every day is exactly the same, Sunspots en The line begins to blur zijn erg gaaf.
Niet zo sexy als Pretty hate machine, niet zo hard als Broken, niet zo duister als Downward spiral en niet zo bloedmooi als The fragile, maar gewoon een prima cd.

Vroeger werkte Trent Reznor samen met Chris Vrenna. Hij was drummer en programmeur bij Nine Inch Nails. Chris Vrenna heeft nu een eigen band genaamd Tweaker. Tegenwoordig zit hij alleen in de studio met zo nu en dan gastmuziekanten. Live is het een complete band.

Even een up vanwege het nieuwe conceptalbum Year Zero, te verschijnen in april. Reznor maakt er een geinig project van: in wc's van zalen waar NIN speelt worden USB-sticks achtergelaten met daarop nummers van de nieuwe plaat en er is een zooi websites gelanceerd die iets met het verhaal van het album te maken hebben.
“Year Zero” Project = Way Cooler Than “Lost”

In what has to be the most innovative promotion scheme since the leaked sex tape, NIN have treated their fans to a sort of Where’s Waldo game that includes tour merchandising, a dizzying network of websites and, umm, bathrooms in European concert halls. We’d be lying if we said we weren’t checking echoingthesound, the main fan checkpoint, every hour to see what the latest update is.
In case you’ve been living under a rock (without internet), let us catch you up:
It all started with a NIN tour T-shirt. An overeager fan realized that the bolded letters on the back formed a phrase: iamtryingtobelieve, which if you add a .com to the end of it, takes us to the first piece of the puzzle. Here, we learn about the drug Parepin, which has been added to the water supplies of Orlando as protection against similar acts of bio-terrorism against Los Angeles and Anaheim in 2009 (or -13 BA…try to keep up). This site speculates whether Parepin is a medium for the government to control the minds of its citizens. When you email the site owner, who has stopped using the drug because of his conspiracy beliefs, you get this email back:

The site seems innocent enough, until you click and drag the main page pictures, revealing another, more disturbing, picture underneath. When the under-picture is totally revealed, a link takes you to a message board. We can tell you what is discussed on the message board (a new drug called Opal, the introduction of the Angry Sniper character, and disturbing pictures of “The Presence”), but you should really check it out yourself. It’s complex.
Here, we should introduce you to “The Presence,” an ongoing motif in the game and the subject of Year Zero’s cover (above). “The Presence” is literally a giant fucking four-fingered hand that, supposedly, came out of the sky. It’s speculated that “The Presence” is everything from a giant tornado to the impending rapture to a government ploy used to scare its citizens. Whatever it is, it looks foreboding.
How are these sites found? Well, that’s where European rest rooms come in. Throughout NIN’s European tour, members of whatever all-star marketing squad is behind all this have been leaving USB drives in random concert venues. The drives are filled with new NIN songs (”My Violent Heart” and “Me, I’m Not”), cryptic mp3s and pictures visible only via spectrographs. These files if deciphered correctly also provide us playing the game with the next clue/website.
Want to know if your bathroom is going to be raided? Those ingenious posters at echoingthesound have discovered that every time a pixel blob appears next to one of the songs listed here, you should hit the toilets early for a chance of grabbing one of these drives.
There are several other sites that are pieces to the puzzles. All the sites provide subtle details into this whole game. This is a summary of what they contain:
Churchofplano.com discusses “The Presence” and introduces us to a Year Zero-era religion. The Church of Plano discusses donating land to the 105th Airborne Crusaders, which led someone to find this site…
105thairbornecrusaders.com: The “Angry Sniper” mentions he served under this unit of “Soldiers of God Under the US Flag.” The Angry Sniper might be the main narrator in Reznor’s scheme. He is the most reoccurring character in this story and after serving time in the military, finds himself entrenched in the “Resistance.” His experiences from both fringes of society make him an ideal candidate to tell Reznor’s complex story.
Bethehammer.net is apparently a resistance site maintained by the Angry Sniper. Here, you’ll find numerous stories showing how America has gone even further downhill in a post-George W. Bush era.
Consolidatedmailsystems.com/nooneimportant/: This site talks about the drug Opal, a black liquid which, when injected into the eye, makes the white of the eyes turn black and produces euphoric and hallucinogenic effects. Notice that cool drawing of “The Presence” buried under the text.
Uswiretap.com/71839J/: This site contains a transcript between two law enforcement agents. Hidden somewhere on this site is text from Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughter-House Five (another of these pages contains excerpts from Tolkein’s The Hobbit.) US Wiretap also provides us with the phone number (216) 333-1810, which when dialed, plays a tapped conversation that sounds like a girl witnessing a massacre at a concert. We think. This is a Cleveland phone number (Trent’s hometown). You know that fact has to be significant, right? How it fits in scheme of things remains to be seen.
Artisresistance.com/: The newest site to reveal itself (as of 1:30 p.m., 2/22, -15BA). Want to resist? Make art. This site provides resisters (and fans) with desktop backgrounds, AIM icons, stickers, posters, etc etc…ingredients of bringing this story into our current, physical world. So if you see a bunch of posters bearing these symbols stapled to telephone poles, well, then you live near a NIN fan.
Of course, no maze is complete without a few wrong turns. The site opalescenthaze.com drew something close to death threats when it was unmasked as a hoax. And then there’s the poor fellow who runs inthistwilight.com — the name of a Year Zero song. This site drew so much digging into the domain owner’s private life, he posted on a NIN message board begging everyone to leave him alone.
So what’s the next clue? This shit is more confusing than Lost, so tell us what you think its all about. Stay tuned…

Ik vind het een vrij donker album geworden. Zeker niet Trent's beste werk, maar toch weer enkele opzwepende nummers (Letting you en 1.000.000) en een paar heel atmosferische nummers (Echoplex, The Four Of Us Are Dying). Het album ligt m.i. wat in de lijn van Year Zero, maar moet er toch ietwat voor onder doen. In juli zou er een cd en vinyl versie van op de markt moeten komen.
Ik vind het een vrij donker album geworden. Zeker niet Trent's beste werk, maar toch weer enkele opzwepende nummers (Letting you en 1.000.000) en een paar heel atmosferische nummers (Echoplex, The Four Of Us Are Dying). Ik weet het niet met NIN de laatste paar albums hoor, vond het een geweldige band tot aan the Fragile, maar alles wat erna kwam kan me voor geen meter boeien. Met als dieptepunt die Ghost I-IV waar misschien 1,5 interessant nummer op staat, voor mijn gevoel gooit hij een beetje zijn goede naam te grabbel. Erg mooi dat hij op deze manier zijn albums aanbied en the Slip is weer iets beter dan Ghost. Daarnaast zijn de concepten geweldig, maar muzikaal vind ik het allemaal erg matig de laatste tijd.
A note from Trent and a wave goodbye
Towards the beginning of my career in Nine Inch Nails, our biggest break came in the form of an invitation to perform a series of shows with Jane's Addiction. These performances essentially created and defined the term "alternative" rock in the US, created an ongoing festival franchise that is still thriving (Lollapalooza), set the stage for Nirvana to shift popular taste a few months later, and were really fucking FUN to play and attend - truly the best times I've had. The shows were epic. So epic, they propelled NIN to the "next level" (whatever that means), but caused Jane's to implode. The band broke up at the end of that tour.
Fast forward to the present. Corporate rock STILL sucks. A friend tells me they saw the original Jane's lineup play a tiny show in LA that was unbelievable. I break out my Jane's records and am amazed by how vital they sound. These guys were the real deal and in this current climate mostly dominated by poseurs and pussies it was refreshing to hear something that sounded dangerous, volatile, beautiful and SINCERE.
Emails were sent, phone calls were made, dinner was arranged, ideas were discussed and the next thing I know we're in the studio experimenting. We laugh, we get to know each other, we cry, we yell, we almost quit, we record LOTS of guitar solos, we discuss, we actually begin to all communicate, we yell some more, we become FRIENDS, we laugh again and we do some great things. I get to see first hand why they broke up all those years ago but I also get the chance to see four distinct personalities that become an INCREDIBLE band when they're in the same room.
In NIN world, 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of our first releases. I've been thinking for some time now it's time to make NIN disappear for a while. Last year's "Lights in the Sky" tour was something I'm quite proud of and seems like the culmination of what I could pull off in terms of an elaborate production. It was also quite difficult to pull off technically and physically night after night and left us all a bit dazed. After some thought, we decided to book a last run of shows across the globe this year. The approach to these shows is quite different from last year - much more raw, spontaneous and less scripted. Fun for us and a different way for you to see us and wave goodbye. I reached out to Jane's to see if they'd want to join us across the US and we all felt it could be a great thing. Will it work? Will it resonate in the marketplace? Who knows. Are there big record label marketing dollars to convince you to attend? Nope.
Does it feel right to us and does it seem like it will be fun for us and you? Yes it does.

Reactivated NINE INCH NAILS has signed to Columbia Records, home to NIN mainman Trent Reznor's other band HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS, for the release of a new studio album, tentatively due later this year.
"I've been less than honest about what I've really been up to lately," Reznor said in a statement. "For the last year I've been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length NINE INCH NAILS record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly fucking great. This is the real impetus and motivation behind the decision to assemble a new band and tour again. My forays into film, HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS and other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking NINE INCH NAILS to a new place. Here we go!"
Reznor reformed NINE INCH NAILS earlier this year with KING CRIMSON guitarist Adrian Belew, TELEFON TEL AVIV's Josh Eustis, and former NIN touring partners Robin Finck, Alessandro Cortini and Ilan Rubin. The band has a series of festival dates planned for the rest of the year.
In early 2009, Reznor announced that NINE INCH NAILS was embarking on a 20th-anniversary farewell tour, after which he stayed busy recording with HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS, writing music for "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" and scoring "The Social Network" and "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" with composer Atticus Ross.

Reactivated NINE INCH NAILS has signed to Columbia Records, home to NIN mainman Trent Reznor's other band HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS, for the release of a new studio album, tentatively due later this year.
"I've been less than honest about what I've really been up to lately," Reznor said in a statement. "For the last year I've been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length NINE INCH NAILS record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly fucking great. This is the real impetus and motivation behind the decision to assemble a new band and tour again. My forays into film, HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS and other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking NINE INCH NAILS to a new place. Here we go!"
Reznor reformed NINE INCH NAILS earlier this year with KING CRIMSON guitarist Adrian Belew, TELEFON TEL AVIV's Josh Eustis, and former NIN touring partners Robin Finck, Alessandro Cortini and Ilan Rubin. The band has a series of festival dates planned for the rest of the year.
In early 2009, Reznor announced that NINE INCH NAILS was embarking on a 20th-anniversary farewell tour, after which he stayed busy recording with HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS, writing music for "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" and scoring "The Social Network" and "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" with composer Atticus Ross.
