Independent!!!

I used to think that heavy bands ignored the current trends!!!

* with NUCLEAR ASSAULT
DAY 1: Frankfurt/M.
... time for one last Diebels at the airport, and then a quick fare-well to the guitars, drums and luggage at the check-in, a short prayer that the damn machine will not crash... and we're finally on our way. We are accompanied by a one man camera team from Roaxfilms (25 years of SODOM DVD, Uncle Tom DVD....) that will document all dirty deeds in action. Therefore attention is a must, when trying to secretly stare at the local girls t*ts.... the entire group takes off to Sao Paolo on time. Short stop-over there, then we fly on to Brazila. After a 20-hour flight (... not enough in-flight drinks!) the band & crew (incl. soundman Achim Köhler) land in Brazilia. At the baggage-claim it turns out that one of Tom´s bags is missing. Most likely to be found in Miami.... no big deal, just the blow-up-doll (mute Ursula) for the trip is gone and beautiful new "granny-panties" are also available in Brazil. Panic subsides and we heartily greet the heroes from NUCLEAR ASSAULT (we play 3 Brazilian-shows with them) who have already been waiting for the boys from good old Germany. Quickly exchanged some cash, and Tom has already bought the first round of beer while still in the airport to strike up the first frothy toast with the Americans. Some Brazilian buddies of NUCLEAR ASSAULT are throwing a party tonight, but first, both bands head to a CD-store in the city of Brazilia to sign autographs for an hour. ..... until tomorrow!
Ronny of ROAX records every show with a combination of 4 cameras. You can check out excerpts of these shows on SIMeVIL any time soon!
DAY 2: Show in Brasilia
There were almost 500 maniacs at yesterday's autograph session, that almost tore the store down. Total insanity ! The party yesterday evening was simply wild, nobody had Caipirinha that good in a long time, unfortunately way too many... 12.30 lunch und load-in, 14:30 sound-check, scheduled show time for Tom & Co. was 22.00. Today there is no local support. Tour manager Eduardo assumes that the house will be sold out.... Okay, the first show can come, we're all hot for this gig (despite the hang over)! Doors opened and the place was sold out within a short time and exactly at this moment a court bailiff appears with police and confiscated the entire revenues!!! Reason: the local organizer has debts with somebody. This means no cash for NUCLEAR ASSAULT and SODOM!!! Only through long negotiations by tour manager Eduardo both bands at least get their minimum salary. Thus the evening was saved However, the whole negotiation took hours so that the show did not start until 1:30. The mosh pit went-off like a burning cat, like there was no tomorrow. We were back in the hotel at 4:00 a.m. and check-in at the airport was at 6:00 in order to fly to Belo Horizonte. What a night!!! Oh... I almost forgot, Danny Lilker sends greetings to all German NUCLEAR ASSAULT fans along the way!!!
DAY 3: Show in Belo Horizonte
10.00 a.m. in Belo Horizonte, we arrive at the hotel and can finally grab a few winks of sleep, after the chaos yesterday everyone is totally beat. Around 4 p.m., the bands actually made it to the venue for soundcheck. Today 2 local support acts, DROWNED and CHAKAL, played. Once again delays so NUCLEAR ASSAULT could go onstage at 11.p.m. and then SODOM at 0.30 devastated sold out place. Climax of today's show was Danny Lilker's guest appearance during "Blasphemer", a crowd pleaser and a great song with Danny on bass!!! To make things worse Tom's beloved bass got badly damaged, probably beyond repair. Lilker was a great colleague and let Tom play his bass every evening, (what a friendship) Incidentally, Paolo of SEPULTURA was also in today’s audience and invited the lads for a communal drink in his bar after tomorrow's show in Sao Paulo. Today’s after-show party was wild, because Matthias, the NUCLEAR ASSAULT ´s German-born tour manager, invited us to his place, where ample amounts of Caipi flowed (not like the stuff in Germany, even homeless people in Brazil wouldn’t drink that stuff) and cool music from Freddy Quinn to the Pointer Sisters. We got edgy even without Metal!!! Until tomorrow…
DAY 4: Show in Sao Paulo
Still a bit shaken from yesterdays party, Eduardo nevertheless succeeds in beating us from our bunks before the shuttle-bus arrives to chauffeur the entire band to the airport. Thank God for shades as the pupils of almost all the party-goers are as good as not recognizable. And don´t mention the bags around their eyes.... at 12.00 a.m. the plane took off for Sao Paulo. Tonight we have several metal celebrities like Frank Blackfire and also the amazing Atomic Steif on the guest-list. SEPULTURA actually planned on coming as well, but it seems that it did not fit in with their time-table. Sao Paulo topped all the other attendances, the house is packed with 1.500 people. As with all previous shows the Brazilian fans are simply out-of-control and can only be compared with the audiences at big Open European festivals. Today´s show is again scheduled without local opening band and for Brazilian conditions a planned show start for 20.00 p.m. is quite early. As we're already used to delays by now nobody was really surprised that NUCLEAR ASSAULT banged their first song into the crowd one hour later. Unfortunately the US boys played their last show of the tour today. When SODOM took the stage all hell broke loose even before they play a single note. With "Among The Weird Cong" as the set opener the Sodomaniacs in front knew what they were in for. For "Remember The Fallen" Frank Blackfire entered the stage joining Bernemann's on guitar. Nostalgic memories arose and the already ecstatic mood almost grew into total euphoria. Blackfire then also played "Sodomy & Lust" followed by "Blasphemer" again with Danny Lilker on bass. Unfortunately Atomic Steiff could not be persuaded to perform at least one track on drums … too bad. Tonight probably another 20 encores would not have satisfied the crowd. Result: the best gig of the tour yet. Afterwards we headed to the hotel in order to celebrate with NUCLEAR ASSAULT and say good-bye, and that's all we did, believe us.....
DAY 5: Day Off
11.00 a.m. Sao Paulo – the sun is hot, our hair is a mess, and its hard to focus the eyes – at the airport we check in for the flight to Port Alegre wearing sunglasses. 13.35 p.m. Porto Alegre – the sun is still hot, our hair is worse than before take-off, our eyes? no response – we head to the hotel. 17.00 p.m. CD-Metal-Shop in the City – the sun is still ever hot, can’t even begin to talk about the hair, but the eyes start to function again –signing autograph. Incredible 400 to 500 people appear to get a SODOM signature, that´s so in demand as it seems. 0:00 a.m. Radio Ipanema FM – the moon is out, with freshly combed hair and 1 or 2 Caipis in the blood, Tom, Bernemann and Bobby bravely sit in a 2-hour Metal-Program "ARRASA QUARTEIRÃO". The host Gustavo asked most of the standard questions about the band and tomorrow’s show. He assured us, that it would be a highlight of the year for the Brazilian metal maniacs. We stayed until the end of the program (2.00 a.m) and took a couple more glasses after work with Gustavo at a Metalbar in the city of Porto Alegre, as we don’t have to get up until 1 p.m. tomorrow..
DAY 6: Show in Porto Alegre
Tom´s beloved bass is finally repaired. With this good news we start a tour of the city. Achim needs new sneakers (sports is murder !). What´s that ? an Austrian restaurant in the middle of Brazil ? We raid the place and stuff our bellies full with traditional Austrian specialties. With out a support act we play alone tonight. The venue is a small club, which is spread over two floors. At our return from the hotel after soundcheck the place is packed. The show turns out to be killer, Tom receives a cut on his forehead, covered with blood he plays the shows to the finish, very much to the delight of everybody watching. A great show effect, by the way. After the show again a few Caipirinhas in the hotel lobby. Tom is still very happy about the reanimation of his bass. Tomorrow will be a travel day to Sao Paolo.
DAY 7: Day Off
18:20 - Check in at Porto Alegre Airport (Flight to Sao Paulo)
19:20 - Departure to the city of Sao Paulo
20:55 - Arrival in Sao Paulo Airport
21:30 - Check in at the Hotel
DAY 8: Show in Lima (Peru)
After a day hanging out in the hotel, we leave for the airport at 8 a.m. to travel to Peru. We claim our baggage in Lima, checking out, we can´t believe our eyes. Hundreds of fans welcome us just like the Beatles way back when. A tumultuous outcry as Tom leaves the terminal. Armed with SODOM posters etc the Peruvians welcomes us to warmly that everybody is close to tears. After signing many autographs it´s off to the hotel, were we actually had planned to take a short nap. Arriving at the hotel, we again greeted by three dozens of fans. Simply great !! Humidity in Lima is breathtaking. Despite the lack of oxygen we arrive at the venue shortly before 5 p.m. The place is completely sold out with 2.000 maniacs and show started at 22.00 p.m. Only Bobby is a bit unhappy as his drum kit is dismal and his drum riser does not have a carpet. Actually the promoter had promised professional tools … well we kinda foresaw the story. After the first track "Among The Weird Cong" the whole place went nuts as if on speed and this went on until 4 song before the end of the show. That´s when the energy broke down and nothing worked anymore. The crowd lost it but nothing could be done. No more electricity. After 30 minutes the first fans left, only to continue rioting in front the venue. Cars were wrecked and turned over. Only now Tom and the band started to realize that the promoter tried to flee with most of the money during the show. Tour manager Eduardo and some fans tried to prevent this. Eduardo insisted and finally got 90% of the money cash that was in deal. This made the local promoter freak out so the took all the fuses out of the sockets and threw them away, so that nothing worked anymore. Later people told us the guy already had a reputation for weird behaviour, fortunately the anger of the fans was not directed at SODOM. The rioting fans cooled off and marched to our hotel, were we partied into the wee hours. What a day! Tomorrow it´s off to Colombia, let´s see what will happen there.
DAY 9: Day Off
Not an hour of sleep since we left Sao Paolo. Now we´ll travel Colombia. First we really need to rest, as everybody was simply devastated be the lack of sleep and the extreme climate. In the evening we went to a bar were a cool band was playing classic rock covers

Edit:

The Horseman schreef:[..]
