Negura Bunget

Ik heb vorig weekend het nieuwe album van Negurã Bunget aangeschaft. Dit album is zo goed dat ik gewoon een topic over deze band aan moet maken.

Deze Roemeense band bestaat al sinds 1995 en heeft 4 full length cd's uit. Eigenlijk leerde ik ze pas echt kennen in 2002 met hun album 'n Crugu Bradului. Ik ben dus eigenlijk nog maar een leek in de wereld van Negurã Bunget. En aangezien ik 'n Crugu Bradului goed vond maar niet zo goed dat hij echt blijft hangen had ik verder maar weinig aandacht aan de band besteed. Toch knalt hun nieuwe album Om mij compleet omver.

De muziek van Negurã Bunget valt onder het kopje black metal. Toch dekt dat de lading niet. Black metal is muziek van haat en duisternis maar dat is iets wat je maar weinig terugvindt in de muziek van de Roemenen. Respect voor de natuur, een verlangen naar een oude tijd, mystiek, esoterie en pure magie. Dat zijn de woorden die in mij opkomen als ik naar Om luister.

Puur muzikaal lijkt het wel een mix te zijn van Burzum/Drudkh achtige black metal, soundscapes zoals je die kent van Neurosis en Cult of Luna, het sferische element van Pink floyd en dan de pure apocalyptische folk.
De muziek klinkt erg organisch. Wat vooral komt door de rauwe productie, het gebruik van veel houten percussie/folk instrumenten en de vloeiende manier van songschrijven. Dus songs lijken te "groeien" op dezelfde manier waarop een boom of plant groeit. Ze hebben een vast beginpunt en vertakken daarna in allerlei richtingen, ze zwellen op bombastische wijze aan en zwakken daarna af tot iets heel breekbaars.
Het geheel klinkt spiritueel en mystiek.

Ik kan er weinig meer over zeggen dan dat de bijgevoegde DVD ook zeer de moeite waard is.

Ja, gave shit. Ze gebruiken ook een hoop Roemeense volksmuziek-elementen, en op het thematisch vlak behandelen ze ook Roemeense spiritualiteit.

Op de oudere albums (die ik het gaafst vind), Sala Molksa, Zìrnindu-sa en Mãiastru Sfetnic zijn ook een hoop Traco-Dacische elementen (tekstueel) terug te vinden.

JA zeer gave vernieuwende band, een heel fraaie invalshoek en benaderwijze van black metal. Ook heel verrassend en anders, veel momenten op het album OM die je een paar keer opnieuw moet luisteren omdat de lijnen daarbinnen zo vaag, maar ook zo ontzettend gaaf en geniaal zijn.

Leuke band, moet het eerdere werk daarentegen ook nog eens gaan uitchecken.

'N Crugu Bradului vond ik erg gaaf, maar daar had ik ook hetzelfde probleem mee als jij, 't bleef allemaal maar niet hangen. Datzelfde heb ik nu eigenlijk ook met Om, hoewel ik het nummer Conoaș Terea Tăcută dan weer regelrecht geniaal vind. Nuja, ik zal de stap eens wagen en de cd kaufen en 'm eens beter beluisteren.

Het oudere werk kan me eigenlijk niet boeien.

Ik ken hun oude werk dus niet. Maar ik gok dat die platen meer pure black metal bevatten. Als je alleen van pure black metal houdt dan zal Om wel iets te avontuurlijk zijn voor je. Maar als je er echt even voor gaat zitten en de sfeer tot je door laat dringen dan is het gewoon een geweldige plaat die qua sfeer echt pure black metal is.

Om is inderdaad supergeniaal, die sfeer!!!! Ik ben ook heel benieuwd naar de clip op de bonuscd, die is ook gemaakt voor een van de beste nummers. Wat een budget ook, het zal in Roemenie wel niet zo duur zijn om een clip te maken. Als je bij youtube Negura Bunget intypt zie je al een prachtige trailer voor dit album, dat zal wel uit de clip komen. Supervet.

Sinds enkele dagen de oudere albums en Om in huis. Ik mis alleen nog 'n Crugu Bradului. In ieder geval, Om is echt geniaal. Prachtig album. De oudere albums bevallen me ook goed, stuk rauwer maar wel erg sfeervol allemaal.

OM rockt. 'N Crugu Bradului is ook erg goed, slechts vier lange nummers, maar met ook hier weer prachtig gebruik van inheemse instrumenten en zat afwisseling.

Negura Bunget announce new line-up

Romanian black metal veterans Negura Bunget have issued the following statement:

This has to be one of the most difficult messages to be written. We are sorry to announce that Hupogrammos and Sol Faur have ended their journey along Negura Bunget. Our paths are now apart. We wish them all the best on their new endeavors (their new project will be announced at a later time).
Meanwhile, a new Negura Bunget line-up is assembled, which will continue the path started almost 15 years ago. Rest assure, we are keen to prove there is more to be said by this band, and we will work to fulfill our spiritual endeavor relentlessly.

All Negura Bunget scheduled plans (concerts, festivals, contracts with Aural Music/Code666 Records and Prophecy Productions/Lupus Lounge) will be completed in the new formula. New website and myspace page are developed and will soon be online.

Begreep van een Roemeen die ik ken via een ander forum dat negura Bunget na het vertrek van Hupogrammos en consorten heeft besloten er helemaal mee op te houden.

Zou me sterk lijken, juist na de mededeling dat ze ermee doorgaan, met nieuwe bandleden. Negru's statement lijkt me trouwens toch redelijk zeker en optimistisch klinken.

Toch minder goed nieuws dus:

This statement is signed by Sol Faur and myself (Hupogrammos). Our aim is to shed light on the recent developments in relation to Negura Bunget. We also want to prevent further abuse of the name Negura Bunget and our past activities. Our decision should be well understood and fans and media have a right to be correctly informed of the current development. We owe this to the public and Negura Bunget itself. There is no intention to turn this into a personal issue between us and our former drummer Negru. We do not wish to create a public scandal, but a line has been crossed and it is time now to stand up and fight for what we believe in.

With the last "official" Negura Bunget statement, things went too far. The selfish and greedy acts of a single person are doing too much harm. We cannot accept how our issues were presented to the world. In truth our gesture to step aside from the band was generated by the selfish behavior of our drummer Negru and by his lack of ability to connect, to work in a team as well as by his lack of honesty.

We initially intended to remain silent on the reasons of our split. We all agreed to end our joined work and to release a simple and unspectacular statement to the press in order to prevent our personal animosity to become part of the story. It was agreed by all that none of the members would use the name "Negura Bunget" ever again in the future since the band as an entity was comprised by all three of its members. Negru's act of making a public statement that is completely different from what has been agreed upon proves once more a total lack of respect for the other members of our and his own band. It proves his honor to be questionable as his acts are serving only his personal interest.

Our own statement, which we had sent to Negru for approval and adjustment read like this:

“After fifteen years of experience in the metal scene Negura Bunget decided to end its activity. Negru will continue with his own project called Din Brad, while Hupogrammos and Sol Faur will continue the direction of the band under a different name that will be announced at a later date. The band would like to thank to everybody, who supported and believed in Negura Bunget and invites you to follow our further musical activities.”

Unfortunately we did not the chance to see his final statement before it was sent. We were unable to change or to prevent it from becoming public in that form. Being in charge of all the logistic part of our work (i.e. all our contacts, our Myspace page, our official website, our newsletter and activities of Negura Music) Negru was entitled to send our statement to the media and to the public. However, he didn't consult us before posting a statement that did not care about our opinion, even though his statement makes believe this was a mutual decision.

We think that it would have been much more natural, peaceful and wise decision, if he would have simply continued his musical activities under a new name or under the name "Din Brad". In this regard we would like to express our deepest regret and disappointment that two of our guest musicians, whom we collaborated with during the last years, accepted to join his sham. Nevertheless we consider it to be very inappropriate for them to continue performing songs that were composed by those members leaving the band. It is truly sad to see that the band is now becoming a personal business for our former drummer. He never was and he will never be Negura Bunget by himself. If this is the spiritual endeavor which he is talking about, then this is a serious insult to the very name of Negura Bunget and an unforgivable contradiction to the cultural and spiritual concepts that Negura Bunget was standing for during all these years. It means an injury to us, the past members that dedicated 15 years of their lives to support and sustain an elevated path. It means an injury to anybody, who believed in what we were doing and maybe most of all it is a wounding of Spirit and Transcendence, the path that Negura Bunget was honored to dedicate its very existence to.

We, Sol Faur and Hupogrammos, who have composed nearly all music and written the lyrics of and for Negura Bunget herewith, declare that this band is dead. Any continuation of it just means a sham and a fake in our eyes.

Former NEGURA BUNGET Members Launch DORDEDUH - June 10, 2009

Former NEGURA BUNGET members Hupogrammos (guitars, vocals, bass, keyboards, archaic instruments) and Sol Faur (guitar) have launched a brand new project called DORDEDUH (rough translation: "yearning for the spirit"). The band's lineup also includes Arioch (former bassist for NEGURA BUNGET and ex-guitarist of ODEM ARCARUM and SECRETS OF THE MOON), Thelemnar (SECRETS OF THE MOON, THE VISION BLEAK, NEGURA BUNGET) and Sergio Ponti (EPHEL DUATH, ILLOGICIST). A keyboard player is currently being sought as well as someone to play all the traditional instruments that the group intends to use in its music.

Commented the band: "We are eager to step on the stage again and to bring out as soon as possible the new album that we'll be working on. Our aim is to connect the transcendence with the material substance and to elevate the consciousness to the highest realms of the human spirit by providing music based on heartfelt ultimate truths. NEGURA BUNGET: New Album Title Revealed - Oct. 5, 2009

NEGURA BUNGET — the Romanian band that incorporates elements of black metal, progressive metal, folk metal and dark ambient — has set "Vîrstele Pamîntului" (English translation: The Ages of the Land/Earth) as the title of its new album, tentatively due in early 2010. The group states in a press release, "'Vîrstele Pamîntului' is an album about embracing your destiny, about choosing and consciously assuming a way of life. The earth is where we came from and where go back into, the one from above and beyond us. Understanding and respecting it is understanding yourself, your purpose and destiny.

"'Vîrstele Pamîntului' is an album about places of the earth and places of the spirit, about bounds transcending worlds.

"The work on the album is scheduled to be completed on a seclusion NEGURA BUNGET will take into the wilderness of the mountains in the following weeks, to concentrate solely on the work for this album, which will be a landmark for its future evolution. There is also a very special packaging for the album in work. More details about this will be revealed soon. NEGURA BUNGET recently recorded a new song for inclusion on Code666 Records' compilation "Better Undead Than Alive II". Entitled "Cumpana (Balance/Ordeal)", the track was laid down at Negura MUSIC studio and is the first composition to be written by the band's new lineup:

"Maiestrit", the magical and passionate re-interpretation of NEGURA BUNGET's classic album "Maiastru Sfetnic" from 2000, will be released by Lupus Lounge / Prophecy on March 15, 2010. This record contains the last studio recordings of the classic NEGURA BUNGET line-up (Hupogrammos, Sol Faur, Negr u). The album will be complemented by previously unreleased acoustic versions of 'A-vint In Abis' and 'Plecaciunea Mortii'.

Zeer benieuwd naar, "Maiastru Sfetnic" is, net zoals eigenlijk al het werk, steengoed.

Ik heb Maiestrit inmiddels gehoord. Klinkt natuurlijk goed, maar is wel een wat overbodige release als je "Maiastru Sfetnic" al in huis hebt.

Het lijkt er wel op maar dan minder. Ze overdrijven het met de fluitjes e.d. naar mijn smaak.

Als je de folk elementen op Om al niet echt geweldig vond dan moet je Virstele pamintului inderdaad helemaal links laten liggen.

De stijl van Om wordt doorgetrokken en de nadruk ligt nog meer op de folk kant. Maar de muziek is nog steeds duidelijk te bestempelen als black metal. Het is rauw, donker en smerig. De sfeer op dit album is echt fenomenaal en misschien zelfs nog wel een beetje beter dan op Om.

Na wat korte fragmenten op MP3 te hebben gehoord was ik inderdaad bang dat het een te zweverige folk plaat zou zijn geworden. Toch heb ik hem gekocht en ik heb er geen moment spijt van. Je moet dit album echt van begin tot eind helemaal over je heen laten wassen en dan pas kun je echt zeggen wat je er van vindt.

Heb Virstele Pamintului inmiddels een eerste luisterbeurt gegeven en deze gaat zeker in de kast komen, valt me niets tegen.

Nog niet gehoord helaas, maar moet ik dan toch snel maar eens doen. Vond Om erg goed, dus ben wel erg benieuwd naar de nieuwe geworden, zeker nu ik dit lees.

Ik vind ''n Crugu Bradului' de beste cd van hun. Om was zeker goed, en deze laatste bevalt me na 3x helemaal luisteren ook erg goed, beter dan Om zelfs.

Nieuw nummer van Negura Bunget, van op de aankomende EP. Geen slecht nummer, maar op Virstele Pamintului kwamen ze toch veel sterker uit de hoek.
