Ik ben het overigens wel eens met bovenstaande recentie dat de uitvoering een beetje vlak is. Maar ja eigen beheer, er is dus genoeg ruimte voor verbetering.Delian League – Truth in Chaos (Independent Release) Review By Ryan Ogle
There is something to be said about that fine line that separates those who have mastered their instruments and those who have mastered the art of music. It’s nearly impossible to judge one’s talents when you consider that one note played with raw human emotion can sound just as impressive as a ten-note-per-second lead run played with pinpoint accuracy. While those lines are being crossed as musicians continually push the envelope and music evolves, there still remain two clearly distinct schools. Before I ramble myself into redundancy, I’ll get to the point. When I tossed the full length debut from New Jersey’s Delian League in my stereo I heard a band who are extremely talented and well schooled
in their craft, but lack that raw emotion that separates the men from the boys. Truth in Chaos is a textbook showcase of thrashed out traditional metal. This is a disc that had me reminiscing back to the days when Fates Warning regularly occupied my cassette deck and my raised horns were accompanied by a studded leather wristband. Elements of prog and power metal exemplify DL’s classically influenced sound, creating a collection of tunes that could hold their own against any of the heroes of yesteryear. Guitarists Rich Broadhead and Dave Hatfield impressed the hell out of me with their melodic riffery and Maiden-esque soloing. The same goes for the precision drumming of Joe Dooling. The vocals of Jude Andrade fit the music nicely, but did little to push the songs to the next level. I will say that the 10 tracks that make up Truth in Chaos are all solid tunes played with the razor sharp precision achieved by woodshedding with a metronome ten hours a day, but I honestly believe that is the album’s biggest flaw. When I listen to Truth in Chaos I hear a collection of cool riffs that are fairly well arranged, but flatly delivered. I realize opinions are like assholes and you probably couldn’t care less about mine, but when I hear a band I like to get excited about it. I just can’t seem to get that “fuck yeah” feeling from Delian League. They are great at what they are doing, but if you were to ask me I would suggest they throw the click track out the window and put their souls behind the music. That aside, this is a disc worth checking out. Hit up their website and check it out.
