"It's very different for us." admitted Harris. "It's very riffy. The intro has an almost nursery rhyme eeriness. Sometimes you try to create a mood and sometimes it's just there. Everyone's going to ask who Benjamin Breeg is, but you'll just have to find out for yourself!"
Iron Maiden Unveil Album Art And Announce Single
Following the announcement of the forthcoming early September release of their new studio album A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH, Iron Maiden reveal their front cover artwork!
Also announced is the news that THE REINCARNATION OF BENJAMIN BREEG will be released as a very special single on 14th August.
Says Steve Harris, “This is a very intense album in many ways and we really wanted to go with a lead track that demonstrated that in the best way, rather than going for a shorter track on the album just to please the chart rules. Benjamin Breeg is a great example of the feel of the album in it’s really heavy riff and lyrically it’s a very dark, atmospheric and powerful song which really epitomizes what the album is all about for us. So it made a natural choice for us.”
In true Maiden style, the single will be released in two special Limited Edition formats, which by content will not be eligible for the UK singles chart. Manager Rod Smallwood explained, “There are various chart rules compliant to number of tracks, the maximum running time, price structure and all the rest of it. As for the new Maiden single - its simple - we’re putting out a two track CD - THE REINCARNATION OF BENJAMIN BREEG and HALLOWED BE THY NAME (Legends Session) and if it’s too long to qualify for the charts, then so be it. We have no problem with it being non-chart eligible.
EMI will also release a special 7” picture disc with collectable sticker of the ‘Crossed Guns’ Logo. B sides to both formats are from last years amazing ‘Radio 1 legends session recorded especially for the Zane Lowe show.

Overigens, was het iemand al opgevallen hoe ongelofelijk incorrect die M16's zijn op dat logo? Het magazijn zit te ver naar voren. Vriend van me heeft er een verbetering in aangebracht, met begeleidende tekst:

Look at this bad-ass mofo and his M16. Look at him! He's happy with his anatomically correct rifle! He may have to worry about the thing jamming every three shots but! everything is in the right place, so he won't have to worry about having 20 cm of upper receiver being wasted, material that could be used to build more guns. Or ammunition for that matter, his momma apparantly forgot to pack it with his lunch today.
Some minor adjustments seem to please Eddie.

Na de cover een aantal keren goed te bekeken heb kom ik tot de conclusie dat hij supervet blijft alleen is het jammer van die kop van Eddie voorop de tank daar had beter of niks of bijv een engelse vlag gekunt.

De man die de laatste jaren alle covers van The Punisher op z'n geweten heeft.
Acclaimed artist Timothy Bradstreet, who was responsible for the artwork for the new IRON MAIDEN album, "A Matter of Life and Death", has posted the following message on his official blog:
"If you'd have told me back in 1985 that I'd one day be doing an album cover for IRON MAIDEN, I'd have told you to 'Get the **** out of my face.' You see, not only am I one of the MAIDEN faithful from WAY back, I'm a card-carrying member of Ed Hunter F'n fanclub.
"A few months back I recieved one of those emails I had to read two or three times. IRON MAIDEN came calling to see if I wanted to take a crack at their forthcoming album cover. Are you kidding? I spent the better part of my four high school years drawing Eddie in every available corner of my school notebooks to the everlasting chagrin of my instructors. It's like music to my ears to recollect the words of my teachers at the time. I think it went something like this: 'Do you honestly think these silly drawings will ever get you a job in the real world? Why don't you just concentrate on your schoolwork and stop wasting your time?'
"Hmmm, well I think most of them realized they could take a big kiss-off some time ago when I made a career of creating those 'silly drawings' on a monthly basis for The Punisher and John Constantine: Hellblazer. Now it really comes full circle as one of my wildest dreams has found itself fully realized.
"Coming in early September is MAIDEN's 13th studio album, 'A Matter of Life and Death' with artwork by that silly kid from 10th grade. It's truly a wonderful thing for me to be a part of. I want to send a special shout out to Mr. Derek Riggs whose paintings for MAIDEN inspired legions of fans over the last 26 years. Hard to believe it's been that long. Derek will always be the man. I hope I do him honor with my effort."

"We'll be posting it at around midnight on Sunday night (U.K. time) so make sure you're logged in with your Windows Media and Real Players ready to go," reads an announcement that was sent out to the club members earlier today.

Zo, net de nieuwe Maiden single zo'n 15 keer geluisterd. Heb m geript van de site, dus kan m tot eind augustus lekker vaak opnieuw luisteren en bekijken.
En dat is nodig ook, want het is best wennen. Lekkere heavy riff, gave galop in het midden, maar niet zo catchy als je van Maiden gewend bent.
Duidelijk een sterke Bruce solo/Fear of the Dark/X-Factor feel in dit nummer. Het is heavy, het is donker, en apart.
Clip is verder weinig bijzonders, allemaal beelden oude beelden gemixed met opnames vanuit de studio. Ik vind m wel erg gaaf overigens.
Productie is echt super. Ik denk dat dit het beste door Shirley geproduceerde album gaat worden, en afgaande op Benjamin Breeg weet ik dat eigenlijk wel zeker. Gitaren en drums klinken echt superheavy, en het kletterende Steve Harris basgeluid is ook weer terug.
Dit kon nog weleens een heel heavy album gaan worden.
