Maarre nee dus, de 5 albums die ik ken zijn niet bepaald metal. Wel medieval met allerlei invloeden in combinatie met electronische beats enzo.

Al jarenlang vermengt het klassiek geschoolde Duitse trio Qntal uiterst succesvol middeleeuwse instrumenten, elektronische beats, soundscapes, oude muziek, rock en folk. Een unieke combinatie die een hemelse sfeer krijgt door de indrukwekkende prachtstem van operazangeres Syrah. De groep werkt op 'Qntal III - Tristan und Isolde' de atmosferische kant van zijn geluid perfect uit. Met de volgende single 'Nihil' en 'Qntal IV - Ozymandias' brengt Qntal dance- en electro-invloeden meer naar de voorgrond. Middeleeuwse folk en Dead Can Dance worden zo gekoppeld aan dansvloergerichte beats. Gebleven is het uitstekende vakmanschap en daarmee blijft Qntal samen met bijvoorbeeld Helium Vola één van de vaandeldragers van de moderne electro-folk scene. Na ettelijke succesvolle concerten in Nederland - waaronder vorig jaar op Summer Darkness - is Qntal terug voor een show vol enigmatische en dansbare betovering.
Het voorprogramma wordt verzorgd door Unto Ashes. Dit Amerikaanse drietal vermengt met speels gemak Arabisch/Europese folk en middeleeuwse muziek met experimentele rock. Het vroege Dead Can Dance, maar ook Coil, Depeche Mode en Richard Wagner duiken op in Unto Ashes' catalogus.
Vanaf het geniale 'Saturn Return' laat Unto Ashes een etherische klank horen die in de lijn ligt van Ataraxia of Moon Far Away en tegelijk een experimentele kant kent die aan Current 93 doet denken. Met 'Empty into White' en 'Grave Blessings' zet Unto Ashes zijn zegetocht voort waardoor de groep inmiddels tot één van de absolute toppers in de apocalyptische folkscene gerekend mag worden. Opgebouwd rond akoestische gitaren, synthesizers, dulcimer, Perzische en Afrikaanse percussie, samples, loops en drones zijn Unto Ashes-concerten steevast bijzonder krachtig en hypnotiserend. Mis deze alchemistische stijlmengers dus niet en zorg dat je op tijd komt!

Qntal will release it's new album Silver Swan this summer. The exact releasedate is just confirmed at 25 august 2006. The last touches to the production are now finished and the tour is already booked. It will be no suprise that the one responsible for the artwork of Silver Swan is Brian Foud, the designer of The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. The seal reminds of a secret door leading to a parallel universe. Perhaps the world where Syrah took the name Qntal from? This album is more ethereal and mysterious than before. Reminding of Dead Can Dance, Loreena Mckennit or Enya., but is recognizable as Qntal without doubt!
