heb hem binnen. 25 euro bij de Bullit in Eindhoven. Na een week wachten. Waar is de tijd gebleven dat de bullit alles had en daar cd's 15 tot 18 euro kosten. Vinden ze het daar gek dat ik tegenwoordig naar de mediamarkt ga. Daar hebben ze doorgaans meer EN goedkoper.

maar over de DVD. Ziet er niet eens zo slecht uit. Geluid is gewoon cd-kwaliteit uiteraard. Wel schraal dat op de cd een gigantisch podium (outdoor) staat afgebeeld. Altijd gedacht dat het daar dan ook opgenomen was. Spelen ze in werkelijkheid in een superklein zaaltje.

Hij is echt geweldig, het is één van de beste muziek dvd's die ik ooit gezien heb. Wat een eikel is die John toch hij zat er alleen maar over te zeiken omdat hij er geen centjes van terugziet.

Waarschijnlijk krijgt hij heus wel een zak royalties voor deze dvd. Hij vond gewoon de kwaliteit onder de maat (wat ik, na hem bij een vriend te hebben gezien, kan beamen) en vond het geen Iced Earth-waardig product. En wees eerlijk, de beeld-kwaliteit is ook gewoon niet wat je mag verwachten van een metal-dvd anno 2006.

De beeldkwaliteit van de DVD is uitstekend voor een optreden, evenals het camerawerk. Okéé, het is geen 'Imaginations Through The Looking Glass (de metal DVD-live standaard), maar stukken beter dan bijvoorbeeld een DVD als 'Alive 2' van Anthrax.

Als je het vergelijkt met wat ik gewend ben van metalDVD's (Death, Jag Panzer, Agent Steel, Brainstorm), is dit een héle goede opname.

Vanaf Watching Over Me (nr.16) loopt het geluid in DTS formaat helemaal niet meer synchroon. In Dolby Digital 2.0 wel, heel vreemd.

Was helemaal niet nodig geweest als die gasten van Century Media iets beter hun best hadden gedaan bij het monteren van de DVD.

Eindelijk heb ik het voorelkaar : live DVD met DD 5.1 geluid wat synchroon loopt. Vraag me niet hoe ik het gedaan heb, maar het is gelukt. Ook heb ik het afzonderlijke volume-nivo aangepast. Iets meer bas door de subwoofer en minder zang door de centre speaker. Daarnaast volume links en rechtsvoor een beetje opgekrikt.
Ik was namelijk niet tevreden over de "Iced Earth sound" op de DVD.
Daarom heb ik die aangepast naar zoals het, naar mijn mening, hoort te klinken.

Op aanvraag zijn "tips" verkrijgbaar

Nee, op zich een prima optreden wel. Alleen is het een wat klein zaaltje, saai publiek en niet altijd even goed gefilmt.

I also lost the one person that was my true mentor and inspiration throughout my life, which was very difficult. My Father, Tom Schaffer, died unexpectedly of a massive stroke in October. He was 67, and died two weeks before his 68th birthday. It's hard to imagine what my life would have been like without my Dad's influence. I would not be who I am today, that's for sure. Fortunately, he was able to travel with the band a few times, and he really enjoyed meeting and talking with the fans. He was there for the Alive in Athens recording and was dubbed Papa Earth by some of the fans in Greece. I will miss him very much.

Obviously, this had a huge impact on me and brought the writing to a halt for about a month.

I'm back on track and we are going to start recording on February 1st. We will be releasing a single/EP in June '07 that will feature the Something Wicked trilogy re-recorded and a track that will be an alternate edit of a song that will be on Something Wicked Part 2 that now has a working title of "Come What May." The label was wanting me to do something with the original trilogy to reintroduce the story. So, what we have in store for you is very cool. You will hear "Prophecy," "Birth of the Wicked," and "The Coming Curse" in a new way that will be a very killer way to kick off this massive epic.

I don't want to give you any details to spoil the surprise, but trust me, it's going to be awesome.

"Something Wicked (Part 1)" will be released in the September/October '07 time frame and Part 2 will follow in January/February '08.

This is by far the most epic task I've ever taken on as a songwriter and I really feel like it will be worth all the sacrifice when it's finished. I've been working nonstop for over a year now and it's coming together in a very special way. I've just about finished all the musical arrangements and am now focusing on writing the lyrics/vocal melodies. I'm in the final stretch now........

Tim Mills has contributed a few really cool pieces of music and has shown a real interest in the whole "Something Wicked" story, and a real passion for being involved with the band. All this while owning and operating his own company (Bare Knuckle Pickups). I'm impressed, it's a rare quality, believe me.

Also, the bass player on the next record is a local boy from Indianapolis whose name is James "Bo" Wallace. Bo is a killer player and a great personality. I went to see him perform several months ago and was impressed with his abilities, energy and passion. He played with Ma Kelley for many years and released several records on a few different independent labels. Without a doubt, Bo is a great bass player and I'm happy to have him working with Iced Earth.

Ik denk dus van wel. Ga maar eens 'Jugalator' en 'Demolition' van Judas Priest luisteren. Op die platen zet Owens naar mijn mening met zijn zang een behoorlijk duistere sfeer neer.

Denk maar niet dat dat dat kaalgeschoren ambtenaartje terug gaat komen. Zal me niet verbazen als Barlow inmiddels een 'New Born Christian' is.

Goede kans dat de werkelijke release nog 2 jaar op zich laat wachten, omdat Jon met zn rug niet het trappetje van de studio opkomt ofzo, ik ben het vertrouwen in Iced Earth een beetje kwijt. Ze moeten wel met een beresterk album op de proppen komen, willen ze het laatste grijntje fanatiek fanzijn van Iced Earth van mij niet verliezen. Maar we zullen afwachten.

Hoe kom je er nou weer bij dat de release waarschijnlijk uitgesteld gaat worden, 2 jaar maar liefst??? Er wordt toch gemeld in het nieuwsbericht dat alles bijna is opgenomen?

Dat ze met een sterk album moeten komen, staat vast. Het ziet er zo op papier wel erg goed uit. Maar met zoveel nummers die geschreven zijn, ben ik ook een beetje bang voor een hoop 'fillers'.

Ik ben benieuwd naar het nieuwe werk van Iced Earth. Het laatste album vond ik best goed, al werd ik snel misselijk van het nummer, when the eagle cries. En dan krijg je uitgerekend dat nummer extra als bonustrack, akoestisch opgenomen....

binnenkort maar weer eens burnt offerings opzetten.

Tweedehands heb ik de 5 cd box Dark Genesis compleet met kaartspel gekocht. Het blijkt zo te wezen dat het nog 1 is van de misprint in het begin. Volgens de verkoper waren de nummers van 2 plaatjes verwisseld. Zelf heb ik het nog niet gecheckt.

Maar is het ding zo zeldzaam wat de verkoper wil doen geloven?

Het is overigens niet de reden dat ik hem aangeschaft heb.

Night Of The Stormrider en Enter The Realm zijn verwisseld, evenals Burnt Offerings en Iced Earth. Die box was voor mij na The Horror Show (eerste album) in ieder geval een ware openbaring, hoewel ik veel moeite had het redelijk ontoegankelijke burnt offerings uit te zitten. Dat is nu mijn favoriete IE album geworden

Het laatste album met Owens heb ik een paar maal gehoord bij een vriend van me maar kon mij niet echt over de streep trekken. Daarbij heb ik sowieso niet zoveel met het 'Something Wicked' album, laat staan een vervolg daar op. Nee, tot en met The Dark Saga(!) is het bij tijd en wijlen geweldig en Night Of The Stormrider is bijna wel een klassieker te noemen. Songs als Desert Rain en Pure Evil staan nog steeds als een huis.

Ik hoop dat de nieuwe albums iets van de duisterheid en ev0lness gaan bezitten die op de originele Something Wicked Trilogy aanwezig waren. Door het gebrek daaraan vond ik The Glorious Burden niet te pruimen: het was gewoon té licht, lief en 'makkelijk'; alle complexiteit (die na Burnt Offerings sowieso al stapsgewijs minder werd) was opeens helemaal verdwenen (met een kleine uitzondering voor die Gettysburg-liedjes trouwens, dat was dan weer wél goed). Ik hoop dat Jon me dit keer wel weer weet mee te zuigen in de sfeer van een album, zoals vóór TGB het geval was.

Ik kwam laatst eigenlijk tot de geniale gedachte dat Sjon best wel wat meer zanglijnen over kan nemen. Zijn stem komt van nature érg dicht in de buurt van Barlow en hij neemt al enkele zanglijnen op zich. Het idee bestond zelfs dat hij Hollow Man in zou zingen. Ik zie daar zeker een toekomst.

Ik sta altijd open voor verassingen wat dat betreft. Zo lang de inspiratie maar van Jon komt.

Jon kan best meezingen, dat doet hij prima. Maar hij zingt lang niet zo zuiver als Mat Barlow. Hooguit komen die stemmen overéén in de lagere regionen.

Officieel volgens mij ergens in oktober, dus wrs ligt ie voor de kerst wel in de winkels.

Deel 2 komt daarna, wrs ergens in maart/april 2008.

Dank je nu kan ik met een gerust hart blijven luisteren...

Ik ben zeer benieuwd naar het nieuwe album en hoop dat IE het waar kan maken.

ICED EARTH mainman Jon Schaffer has sent the following update to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:

"I regret to inform you that Tim Mills [guitar] will not be able to continue working with the band. As you may know, Tim is the founder of Bare Knuckle Pickups and that is his main business. He's had recent employee problems and has now found that his main worker, his right-hand man as it were, is terminally ill with cancer. So, he will not be able to do the record and tours that we had planned on. I knew it was risky bringing someone in that had an established business, I know exactly how hard it can be to be involved in multiple businesses, but we both felt that we'd be able to pull it off. Of course him living in the U.K. and the band living in the States makes things more challenging as well, but these events were completely unforeseen. I really feel for him and his employee and wish them the best through this difficult time.

"I know this lineup situation has become a familiar issue with ICED EARTH but please realize that it will have little or no effect at all on our plans, recording, touring and otherwise. The core is solid, focused and ready to kick some serious ass.
As has been the case since the first ICED EARTH CD I have played every rhythm and lead, every clean and acoustic guitar track that you've heard, with exception of the solos, and I even did a few of those in the old days. This will not cause any delay of the recording or any shows to be canceled so don't worry about a thing, we're right on track as planned.

"Tim played the guitar solos on the re-recording of the 'Something Wicked' trilogy, that appears on the upcoming 'Overture of the Wicked' four-song single that's due to be released in early June. Unfortunately, this news just came up and he's really sorry, as am I, that he won't be able to continue on with us. Also, I think there is some confusion as to what 'Overture of the Wicked' consists of. First, the song 'Ten Thousand Strong' is the single track, and it will appear on 'Framing Armageddon (Something Wicked Part 1)', albeit a bit different than the single version. Second, the 'Something Wicked' trilogy that is comprised of the songs 'Prophecy', 'Birth of the Wicked', and 'The Coming Curse' has been completely rerecorded. From the ground up this is a more vicious and more atmospheric version of the epic piece. I played all of the guitar tracks with a baritone guitar and Brent [Smedley, drums] and I are locked up like a machine gun with the double kicks following many of the detailed picking patterns. This makes for a more intense- and wicked-sounding rhythm section. All of the vocals have been redone, obviously by Tim Owens, who did a masterful job at retaining the passion and honesty of the original, and still put his stamp on it and made it his own. We also put in some teaser atmospheric things that will give you a hint of things to come on Part 1. But just a hint... we don't want to spoil any surprises.

"For those of you that aren't familiar with the old version or the 'Something Wicked' story at all, you should check it out. The original trilogy is just an overview of the story that begins 12,000 years ago and leads us to modern day. You should look at the trilogy as an introduction to this whole epic. What is coming next in the two parts is a far more in depth look into this very tragic, heavy and apocalyptic sci-fi/fantasy story.

As previously reported, ICED EARTH wil support HEAVEN AND HELL on their U.K. tour in November. Also appearing on the bill are LAMB OF GOD.
