Daylight Dies 'blows' deze band echt finaal 'out of the water'.
Enthousiast over muziek, taal (Nederlands en Engels) en natuur.

Hehehe...

Geniale plaat.

Ashes Against The Grain is zoals m'n verwachtingen weer een mooie cd geworden.

We zullen zien.

Voor de mensen die er niet waren;
Van Ashes nummers 1, 2, 5 en (6? en) 7 dacht ik
van Pale Folklore; As embers dress the sky

Optreden was in ieder geval geweldig.
Setlist was Limbs, Falling Snow, As Embers Dress the Sky, Dead Winter Days, I Am the Wooden Doors, In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion, Not Unlike the Waves, Our Fortress is Burning part l + ll

Deze trouwens:
Agalloch had something to make up, since their rather poor appearance on the November's Doom tour last year. Some say it was because of the Belgian date was one of the first they had to play that tour. Anyway, tonight's tim to revenge! Yesterday Agalloch had to play in East-Germany on the Ragnarök festival, together with Primordial, Negura Bunget, Turisas and a lot more. But good thing they played in Belgium this night, a special night. It was set for DVD-recordings for some upcoming Agalloch release. This was part of the tour package with In Age and Sadness, Mael Morda and Mourning Beloveth. Unfortunately due to family related circumstances the tour had to be cancelled – A reprise is set for October this year. The Belgium date however went on as planned. Mourning Beloveth and Mael Morda got replaced by the English Fen – Which is a rather good band.
But first up was In Age and Sadness. This talented young Dutch band had a warm welcome in an overcrowded Biebob. Things like this don't happen that much in Vosselaar. Even though In Age and Sadness have only released a couple of promos and no official albums yet, they showed a lot of potential. Immediately the band kicked in with ultra low and heavy doom metal in its purest form. I had the feeling Mourning Beloveth were there. In Age and Sadness combine the traditional doom laden sound with some musical escapades and progressive hints to Opeth and Katatonia. But I assure you the band's at its best in the heavy department. It seemed like the four guys were a bit overwhelmed on stage resulting in a rather static and from time to time insure stage presence. But In Age and Sadness is a name to remember.
The show from Fen was surely more energetic, but you could see this band didn't have a lot of stage experience. I liked their "Ancient Sorrow" MCD a lot and Fen have got something special around them. Their ambient and post-rock inspired music gives black metal that little bit extra. John Haughm himself offered Fen as replacements for the Irish department of the tour – Which was a good choice. On stage the overall ambience was even better than on CD – Even though the good sound wasn't as good as during In Age and Sadness. I guess a second guitarist would fill that little empty gap. Besides songs from "Ancient Sorrow" some new material had been played. I'm curious about their first release on Code666.
Of course everyone came for Agalloch. Personally it's one of my all time favorites, so they can't do anything wrong. I had to wait years to catch them up on stage and last two years I saw them two times in a row. Excellent! But looking back to this show I've got kind of mixed feelings. First of all; when you do a DVD-recording – Make something special of it. Agalloch is known for their special editions with rare items when it comes to album releases. At least take care of a backdrop, or some special effects suiting the Agalloch concept (some wood on stage had been perfect). And secondly; act a bit more professional. John Haughm is a genius and Agalloch's music is outstanding – But the band kept on doing little fuck ups. They played the first song "Limbs" two times in a row, because Don Anderson's guitar effects didn't work properly the first time. He simple didn't turn on his footswitch. Spinal tap! And the second time Haughm's first note was played wrong. Also the drummer Aesop Dekker did some fuck ups during faster parts. And just like previous time Haughm's screams sounded awfully bad. It's like he's forcing his throat to do his black metal vocals. Stage right and stage left looked like two high school kids. Many less known bands can do better on stage – No doubt about that. I guess Agalloch miss the live experience. But it didn't seem to bother the crowd. The sound was excellent and the atmosphere was intense (as if the Belgian crowd felt like doing a special effort for the DVD-recordings). "Limbs" passed twice, then "Falling Snow". After a guitar change over older songs were played. "As Embers Dressed the Sky" (shortened version) and "Dead Winter Days" melted together as one song. Some faster song I don't really know (or it must have been "She Painted Fire Across the Skyline" minus the intro) was next and then my favorite "Not Unlike the Waves" took us back to the magnificent "Ashes Againt the Grain" album. Also "In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion" from "The Mantle" passed and "Bloodbirds" (with a great post-rock part) ended the set. In the end Anderson broke all of his stings and after quite some we-want-more shouting the band didn't return. Bottomline: great band, great CDs – Yet not that good on stage.
