Some other news:
Claudia(keys/fem vocals) leaves the band:
This is her own decision. The reason is a personal lack of motivation to give a full 100% of effort for the band.
Claudia and Natan however want to state that the friendship will remain.
This too avoid rumours.
Here is the message from Claudia herself:
The English translation of her official statement:
"After 6 years of devotion and hard work I decided to quit Natan. Since a while my motivation was slinking, but I got fueled to carry on by the encouraging words of the other members, but I couldn't manage to give the full 100% anymore.
To stay withe the band for tours and friendship isn't enough to give myself completely, and it's not helping the band or myself. That's why I decided to leave the band.
What will the future bring? Well... with my band In Shadows we are working on a CD. And hopefully in the future there will be a chance to go further in Black/Pagan Metal again!
I wish Natan a great future, musically and personally and thank for the great 6 years!
For a long friendship!
Claudia."
The 'original' text in Flemish:
Claudia"
Anyway, Natan wants to thank Claudia for the devotion, in 6 years of fun.
She has been there practically since the beginning of the band, and it will a be a bit different now without her.

The tracklist:

Wulfgar(S) - Valkyria
Wolves Of Hate(US - Spoils Of War
No Remorse No Retreat(JP) - Victory Or Valhalla
Shieldwall(UK) - The Sword
Alba Gu Brath(UK) - Dupplin Moore
The Black Tartan Clan(B) - White Crosses
Ragnaröek(D) - Küss Mich
Wulfgar(S) - Valhalla Reborn
Alkonost(RUS) - Cold Shining Of The Night
Natan(B) - Velden Van Bloed
Oakenshield(UK) - Utgarda Loki
Askur Yggdrasils(Ice) - Surviving The Resistance
Nemean(B) - Old Jock

Vinternatt(B) - De Zwarte Mis
It's distributed by Plastic Head distribution.
We hope it will be a good promotion for our upcoming album.
Iron Age Records is a new label from England, ambitious, and we are happy they asked us for the compilation.

Mindview(B) review:
NATAN
Het Zicht Van De Dood
Iron Age Records
Face Your Underground(FYU - deathmetal.be) review:
NATAN – HET ZICHT VAN DE DOOD
Iron age records – Iron006
A new label is born! Iron age records are residing in London and they have decided to send a big promo pack our way.
Nearly all releases of the newborn have been delivered at my address and I must say that I’m very thrilled with that.
The band I was expecting the most was Natan, and with their first full-length Het zicht van de dood they have fulfilled my wildest dreams. After so many line-up changes Natan still lives on and once again Belgium has produced a successful black metal band. Along with THEUDHO they wave the pagan black metal flag and because of the occasional keyboard and folk instruments they can claim the title of being one of the best bands on Iron age records.
When a band can produce a debut cd that has over 5 songs that I can recommend to anyone, then u can call this release a great success. Volkskracht brings silence and aggression at the same time, Velden van bloed acquaints us with Claudia’s beautiful voice (what a shame she left), De hoge moves people with the violin, In het zicht van de dood is sheer black metal violence and Doodsfeest is a 17 minutes finish that left me wanting even more.
The two setbacks from this release are the fact that the 17 minutes finish contains only 5 minutes of actual music and the dwarfish font of the artwork and booklet.
If this level of musicianship in black metal (along with such bands as THEUDHO and GORATH) is representative for Belgium, then Belgium is going to be the Norway of melodic black metal.
I would recommend this full-length to anyone who likes atmospheric black/pagan metal or to anyone who is into DISSECTION or HEIDEVOLK for instance.

Natan – het zicht van de dood
Iron Age Records
I live in the same area of the world as Natan and thus was already familiar with this band. I even have some good friends that are ex members of this band. So I have heard and seen this band before. But nothing I heard or saw previously could prepare me for how awesome this record is. On "Het zicht van de dood" Natan did succeed in creating an actual dark, haunting, melancholic atmosphere. They accomplished this with good complex songwriting, aggressive yet melodic guitar riffs, good aggressive drumming and adding just enough flavor to their black metal to spice things up. They also managed to avoid the trap of using too much classical of folk influences. And while they do use violins, keyboards and female singing (velden van bloed) ; they use those ingredients to add more depth and atmosphere and never in a way that in gets in the way of the aggression and dark vibe they try to convey here.
The lyrics are all in Dutch and seem to deal (as far as I can hear/understand them) with cultural identity, repression and stuff like that. On this release Natan reminds me a bit of Keep of kalessin (the use of acoustic guitars, violins to add dynamics to the music) or even a modern sounding version of Bathory (without the horrible clean singing that is)

Lords Of Metal (NL):
Natan - Het Zicht Van De Dood
Iron Age Records
file under Black metal
Roel F.: After having been internationally active for approximately six years, Natan's full-length debut, 'Het Zicht Van De Dood,' sees the light of day. Natan plays hard-hitting pagan black metal with a slight folk metal influence. Although the key element is fast and heavy savagery, ample room has been left for melodic pieces, structured from violin, acoustic guitars and female vocals, that rightly, and above all, timely, off-set the aggression and looming repetition.
Generally speaking, the record embodies dark, thought-through and, as mentioned above, melodious black metal supported by an unobtrusive use of a keyboard. The lead guitarist knows what he is doing, as does the whole band, as a matter of fact: together they have placed enough accents here and there to keep things interesting. This is a fresh-sounding record, and therefore, a listening session is warranted.

Voices From The Dark Side review:
Natan - Het Zicht Van De Dood
(Iron Age Records)
66:06min
Passion is something which can be identified not only by the music itself but also, even if it had become seldom in these days, through the overall presentation of the release. In the case of the debut of the Belgium Black Metal horde NATAN the plain but nevertheless very impressive digipack is the proof that the understanding of the word Black Metal art has not to stop after leaving the recording studio. Musically “Het Zicht Van De Dood” is a great debut and it’s very difficult to mention all the different influences which had been summarized by the six members into a solid piece of Pagan / Black Metal steel. NATAN had been founded in 2001 and the band is in the position to keep their music very melodic even if they are operating in higher aggressive levels. The influences are raging from WINDIR, early ENSLAVED and especially when the band is slowing down to more dark camp fire atmosphere to bands like AGALLOCH or even early ULVER. What makes this album so fantastic is the convincing feeling that the band members are not jumping onto the driving train but that a deep feeling inside them is the driving force. “Het Zicht Van De Dood” is like a wild northern storm with 'Mijn Lot' - an instrumental as the calm eye of the tornado and NATAN is without doubt one of the real highlights of the Metal year 2008. This debut is the proof that not all hope and essence has completely faded over the years. www.natanhorde.be www.ironagerecords.com

Metal Sound(SRB) review:
HET ZICHT VAN DE DOOD
NATAN
Iron Age CD
Uh…these almighty Belgians are really awesome! I have already learned that Iron Age Records delivers only fantastic efforts and promising new bands. Their musical style could be simply described as melodic black metal mixed with great folk influences. From time to time you can hear many real-played instruments, few female vocal-lines (a jewel of this record) and there are even some parts with only acoustic instruments. The atmosphere is also beyond words. It’s somehow rawer, just as it is the case with some black metal acts, but music remains still melodic. Het Zicht van de Dood could be very fast and furious but also it could slow down in a moment and become folk-ambient so this is specific for Natan, a matter that separates this Belgian group from others like them. I found that it’s very good because they are singing in their mother tongue and using some folk instruments. Due to this fact Het Zicht van de Dood sounds absolutely impressive and exotic in a way. As I added before, the production isn’t so polished, it’s rather a raw sound with some keyboard lines on a top. Well, keys are more following harmonies. The release comes in a nice digi-pack edition. I haven’t had any chance to hear them before, but this record got my full attention. I will look forward to finding any other release from Natan and present it to you by reviewing it on Metal Sound’s pages.

NATAN - Het Zicht Van De Dood Black Metal
Label/Kontakt: Iron Age Records
9 Songs (61:42)

Rare review.Metal-Temple.com review:
Belgium is one of this countries that have a faint spot in the Metal world map. Actually, my knownledge is very limited about this music scene so I was really surprised when the new NATAN album reached my desk. The band history starts in Belgium in the winter of 2000/2001 and marks the maiden NATAN release in 2002 in the form of a promo CD entitled "Akeldama."
So, after some lineup changes NATAN come to hit the stores with "Het Zicht Van De Dood" that is released through Iron Age Records. Before I start this review I have to confess that the old school Black Metal in the vein of the DARKTHRONE is definitely not my cup of tea so you have to excuse my ignorance on this scene. NATAN belong to this category although the sound production is not that obscure as it was in the Nordic Black Metal BATHORY influenced blast wave. The Belgian band sounds adequately Dark and evil through the trademark blast beats and high pitch chord tormenting guitars. I found really interesting the melodic breaks that reveal an almost folk Metal background enhanced by the matching female vocals. "De Hoge" is a fine example of my saying where the band flirts with the WAYLANDER sound adding some folk and kind of epic finishing touches. The album keeps the interest in a high level by deflecting a little bit from the die hard Black Metal path in tracks like clean guitar based "Mijn Lot" that works as an intro to the BATHORY influenced "In Het Zicht Van De Dood."
The album is built upon a solid black atmosphere perfectly supported by the fitting dark and evil artwork that dresses the cover and the cd booklet. The keyboards and electronic sounds of "Doodsfeest" close this very good album ’hiding’ a secret track that brings the total running time to the evil 66 minutes and 6 seconds.
So, without breaking new grounds in Black Metal NATAN come with some interesting ideas that can satisfy the fans of this sound and why not raise some expectations for the band’s future discographic step. 3/5

Natan
"Het Zicht Van De Dood"
Genre: Melodic black metal
Iron Age Records
These Cheeky Belgians have their CD 66:06 in length
but placed at least five minutes of silence at the end to make it so. Apart from that small
triviality, this is an exceedingly enjoyable listen and though I'm usually put off by long
songs, these just fly by in a rich mixture of guitar shredding and scintilating melodies.
Opener "Grauwbaard's Lied" has heavy touches of compatriots Enthroned's early material
that being a feral sounding guitar with a heavy gloss of melody that polishes it into a
melodic black metal sheen. The riffs have a melancholic flavour on "Volkskracht" as the
dreamy acoustics and strings push it in a pagan/folk direction with clean vocals, which
caught me out somewhat.
The Mork Gryning sense of dynamics and song structures enables the songs to vary considerably throughout their length, making this feel very epic. I absolutley adored "Velden Van Bloed" with more acoustic playing and a beautiful female voice that seems to draw out your very soul. The song builds slowly as the bass drums increase in pace, as does the snapping snare, like a demand for attention, and before you know it the song ends as it started. Indeed there are so many standout tracks on this release i could not describe each in detail but suffice to say the progressive instrumental "mijn lot" is moody and enchanting and "ondergang" has a brutal elegance that is supremely catchy.
Check it out; you wont be disappointed.

Musik an sich(D) review:
Natan

Nichts Neues im Norden also.

Review Zero Tolerance issue 26/nov-dec 2008 by Sam Crowley:
Yet another pagan black metal band but before you begin thinking about the generic formula of black metal fused with tunes that would be at home in the 2nd series of black adder, Natan are here to give the genre back a much needed hammerblow! With a harder delivery then most of their contemporaries can muster. Natan are not afraid to blast when needed and the savagery they create will appeal to many that would usually shy away from this genre. The inherent aggression in their music and vocal delivery works well when they bring in the more traditional elements and clean vocal section. "Velden van Bloed" works very well as a song starting out with gentle acoustic guitar laced with female vocals and a folk feel before the more traditional black metal stylings begin. The band seem to work the two sides of their music into an adjacent complementary style rather then trying to fuse the two together at every given opportunity. This band definately puts the metal back into pagan metal.

Although not totally unknown either, the Belgian metal scene isn't exactly known for being one of the biggest, yet this origin isn't what makes Natan special. What makes them stand out from most bands in the same style is that this sextet sings in their native language; Flemish. Apart from this the band isn't very original though, more about that later on.
While they're being marketed 'atmospheric pagan/black metal' I'd say this is only half true. Personally I'd rather describe them as melodic black metal with a few folk moments in between. I'm sure Emperor must have had a big influence on these Belgians, who play the cold, antiseptic Scandinavian style of black metal. Most of the time it's rather on the faster side of things, yet there are also some slower parts in their black metal and also a lot of solos throughout the album which clocks in at a bit over an hour.
The very atmospheric folk parts are usually played with synths, violin and (I think) acoustic guitar and are sometimes accompanied by female vocals. With their absolute tranquillity they form a great contrast to the faster and heavier parts; a good example of this is the track "Velden Van Bloed" (Fields Of Blood). However the black metal and folk parts are only seldomly played simultaneously. And even though these calm folk elements are much less prominent than the black metal parts, they do a lot to add depth to the music as a whole.
All of this has been hundreds of times before, we all know that, but on the other hand most bands who play this kind of music aren't nearly half as good as Natan at it. The guitarists really know how their job should be done and the cold atmosphere throughout the whole album is just great. I should also give special credit to Natan's drummer. It's nothing special for a black metal drummer to be fast, but this guy does a lot more than that. Literally; as what makes him stand out from the rest of the drummers in this style is the amount of variation he uses on every track. The production is flawless for this music as well
So my final words on Het Zicht Van De Dood (The Sight Of Death) are these; who needs originality if you can have quality instead? I can definitely recommend this CD to all fans of melodic black metal.

metal, e durante i quaranta minuti fanno capolino elementi atipici come

NATAN - Het Zicht Van De Dood
Iron Age Records
Metal Express Rating: 8.5/10
Release Date: 2008-09-01
by: LIOR 'STEINMETAL' STEIN
Email: lior@metalexpressradio.com
The Belgian band Natan is one of many proofs that Black Metal has developed over the years since its arrival in the early 1990s. The blending of atmospheric elements into Black Metal really made the change and raised the level of interest in this blackened sub-genre.
The year is 2002, Genk., Belgium, that's the period when Natan began their first steps in the Metal world. These six guys made, and are currently making, a huge effort in creating the best Black Metal music while mixing it with tons of melodies and minor Folk Metal elements. After releasing a couple of demos, they released their first debut EP in 2005, Nevel , which carved the way, in the same year, to a feature in a joint split with a Jordanian band named, Augury. 3 years later, under the British label – Iron Age Records, they release their first full length album, Het Zicht Van De Dood.
By examining their production's quality, one will really appreciate a high level effort. This prime factor, produced by Dirk Miers and Natan, played a major role in the band's new outcome. The mixing and the mastering are perfect, making this release higher than other various attempts in this particular sub-genre. Here the guitars are played in a normal volume that doesn't choke and amazing drumming by the great Ezra and regarding the vocals, they are way on top of the other instruments but no too much above. The volume handling of the violin, keyboards and other folk components, which was not in an exaggerated way, allowed this release to receive a wonderful atmospheric shade that went well with the cold-icy melodies.
Het Zicht Van De Dood offers the most evolved form of Black Metal – aggressive, melodic as hell and atmospheric. The high level performance by the boys will open various eyes towards melodic Black Metal. Natan's material, in the music section, is largely very similar to other Black Metal bands of the mid 90's, especially Emperor. Many of Natan's melodic riffs can be recognized, by some Emperor fans, as a strong influence from the band's mid 90's era with albums like: In The Night Side Eclipse and their best release, Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk. Natan's, seemingly, uncontrolled melodies will surely create deep dark feelings among many listeners and inspire thoughts about subjects that are unavoidable in Black Metal: Cold, winter, Paganism, Wars and Death.
Adjoining the massive melodic rhythm sections and small solo sections, comes along the progressiveness of the drums as in the self titled track, the sweet and soft female voice in the beginning and the end of the track: 'Velden Van Bloed', the electric and acoustic violins, which are played by the lead vocalist and finally, the all around keyboards that deliver a cold sensation.
If there is something that is irritating about this album it's the overly repeated melodic rhythms in a song. Natan's coordinated effort to create a melodic piece can be asserted as a success, but with too much overplaying of melodies, especially ones that are repeating themselves, can get tiresome at times. This minor aspect is part the reason some songs are longer and can be just as good if they were shorter than their original length. This phenomenon has some hold on various songs around the album.
Natan as a whole are a well talented group. All of them deserve praises for their roles all around this recording. All of the gang will get a small closure. The lead vocalist, Jonatan, is like any growler in Black Metal but what is most interesting rather is his secondary role as a violinist. He plays both electric and acoustic violins that can be noticed on tracks like 'Velden Van Bloed' and in the massive 'De Hodge'. His role has more than a minor effect on the band's music and elevates its performance.
The synth / keyboards' man, Dario, is another major agent in the band's melodic music and he is in charge of the atmospheric dome around the band. The melodic rhythm that follows the melodic guitars makes the whole rhythm a lot richer, powerful, and in some points, evil.
The drummer, Ezra: what a drummer - so versatile and an expert performer. His drumming makes this album more than just a Black Metal album.
The twin axes, Daniel and Dries, are, almost, the whole story of the band. Their explosive melodies just won't go away. Like running through the ice , their melodic chill is the burning flame of this release. Aside from the fact that their riffs are equal to other Black Metal acts, their channel blending is amazing and that's what makes their riffs special. The best work of the two is definitely in the track 'De Hodge'. Last is the bass player, Jochen, who has his share of glory around this release.
Natan presents a line of very good songs. What is sad is the fact that while all of them are very good and impressive, not all of them are capturing the mind and only some of them remain as the champions of this album. 'De Hodge' is the best of all in this album with undeniable speediness, melodies with no end, particularly in the mid section of the song, great vocals with the feeling of Emperor. 'Mijn Lot' is a great example for Folk Metal around this release and consists of acoustic guitars, violin and piano. 'Grauwbaard's Lied' is so devastating that it really gets you to your feet and lets you know what this release is all about. The self tilted song is another speedster with fast melodies and morbid cover of the syhth, just like on many Black Metal acts. 'Velden Van Bloed' is a well constructed track with female vocals and nice tunes.
Natan's first release can be highly credited as a good one in the Metal world and especially in the extreme Metal movement. Hopefully, their next release will be as good as and even better than this one. These guys had embraced the importance of strong melodies in Black Metal. Many new and old raw Black Metal acts should follow their lead.

bekannten Repräsentanten ihres Landes in schwermetallischen Belangen.
Reinhören lohnt in
jedem Fall.

Reinhören lohnt in
jedem Fall.

Voor de rest, keep it up!
