BLITZKRIEG (UK, NWOBHM)
Though Blitzkrieg has survived over two decades in the music business (albeit sporadically), they are still best remembered for their very first recording, a 1981 single featuring "Blitzkrieg" and "Buried Alive", two of the best songs of the era. Metallica reverently covered "Blitzkrieg" early in their career, and the track was also featured on the NWOBHM compilation put together by Lars Ulrich several years later. By the time the band was able to put out their first album, the lineup was quite different from that of the single, and vocalist Brian Ross had already served a stint with fellow NWOBHMers SATAN Over the years Ross has disbanded and reformed the band countless times with many different lineups, but the basic style has remained intact ever since the beginning -- Blitzkrieg will always be a NWOBHM band at heart. Blitzkrieg are very pleased to announce that the new album due for release later in 2013 will be released on the Metal Nation Records label. The label is ran by original Tygers of Pan Tang and Lionheart vocalist Jess Cox. The album is to be titled ..'Back From Hell' and will be the first Blitzkrieg album studio release since Theatre of the Damned that was released in 2007....

SHADOWKEEP (UK)
ShadowKeep were formed in 1999 by guitarists Chris Allen and Nikki Robson, and Belgian vocalist Rogue M. Only 6 months into the venture, and following the recording of a six-track EP at Thin Ice Studios, produced by Threshold guitarist Karl Groom, their opus Dark Tower became a phenomenon on the defunct mp3.com site, which led to mainstream press coverage in the US and elsewhere. As a result of their online exposure the track was also included as the opener on a German mag’s CD for unsigned bands – thus gaining them a record deal with Limb Music Productions in June 2000. Two albums, Corruption Within and A Chaos Theory, followed to huge acclaim. The band soon gained support slots with Ronnie James Dio, Halford, Symphony X, Dream Evil and Flotsam & Jetsam. These major shows led to appearances at festivals in the UK, America, Germany and Holland - including the very first Bloodstock in the UK.
Sadly, in the course of Summer 2002, vocalist Rogue M. departed to concentrate on personal matters. Undeterred, ShadowKeep however started work on their third album, The Hourglass Effect – again with Karl Groom on production duties, adding ex Tygers Of Pan Tang / AngelWitch Richie Wicks on vocals (after ex-Vicious Rumors singer Ronnie Stixx stepped in for a while), AngelWitch drummer Scott Higham on drums, and Texan Stony Grantham on bass. These sessions produced some of Chris and Nikki’s most creative songwriting and things were looking up, with a new recording deal from Dutch label Melissa Records in place and Hourglass’ slated for a November 2008 release. The album was praised for its concise songs, soaring vocals and grand production. But fate had one more card to play. Wicks left in 2009, soon after departure of Scott Higham to join UK prog band Pendragon. Thankfully drummer extra-ordinaire Omar Hayes, a long time friend of the band, quickly stepped in to keep the band on the road, but finding the right singer proved more difficult. Now re-united with original singer Rogue M, 10 years after the release of A Chaos Theory, the Keep is back and poised to take on the world!!!

AYSCOBE (Germany)
Ayscobe is a Progressive Rock Opera band hailing from Germany and formed in 2003.


METRUM (Austria)
Metrum is a modern rock band formed in 2008/09. Their progressive elements in the
rhythm section, combined with a dark & deep voice and grooving guitar riffs make them
unique. The musicians' roots are diverse, coming from the USA, Austria and Germany.

Vanavond! Ik heb de laatste paar dagen weer eens wat cd's van Blitzkrieg opgezet en het valt me nu pas op dat veel van hun songs erg fijn zijn om mee te zingen. Dat het gave muziek is, wist ik natuurlijk al. Het wordt de eerste keer dat ik deze Britse band live ga zien, dus ik ben benieuwd.

Ik had er graag bij willen zijn. Dit zijn de leukere line ups! Ook Shadowkeep is een gave band.

Ja, maar dat ga ik echt niet trekken. morgen gaan we al naar Fantasialand. Als ik vanavond nog op stap ga, kan je me maandag bij elkaar vegen.

Je hebt dan waarschijnlijk een verstandige keuze gemaakt, Ruud, want het programma liep erg uit. Blitzkrieg begon pas rond elf uur aan hun optreden en eindigde nogal abrupt rond twintig voor een. Blitzkrieg en Shadowkeep moesten beide bovendien een paar (voorname) songs schrappen van hun vooraf geplande setlists. Anderzijds gaf Blitzkrieg voor de liefhebber van old-school heavy metal wel een geweldige show weg, zolang je tenminste niet speciaal voor een uitvoering van het welbekende lijflied Blitzkrieg kwam. Tonight's opening show of the European tour at The Little Devil in Tilburg was fantastic. Too bad the other bands were running late. As a result, Blitzkrieg were not allowed by the venue to finish their set and play the last two songs of their setlist. Which just happened to be both sides from their legendary 1981 debut single, of course. Still I'm not complaining, since Blitzkrieg did play for about 100 minutes and I like most of the other songs just as much.

Moreover, I am listening to the new Blitzkrieg record right now! Rather unexpectedly, as I had read that the release of Back From Hell has been postponed to November. But the band has decided that during this European tour, visitors to their shows can already get the new cd at the merchandise stand. At a reasonable price, I must add (in Tilburg the price was 10 euros, which was also the price of a Blitzkrieg t-shirt, if I'm not mistaken). So all in all I'd definitely advice any fellow European Blitzkrieg fan to try and visit one of these shows!

Vandaag (zaterdag) speelt Blitzkrieg twee shows; 's middags in Duitsland op het Swordbrothers festival en 's avonds in de Rock Temple te Kerkrade. Op zondag kunnen liefhebbers de band aan het werk zien op het gratis toegankelijke Turock Open Air festival in de Duitse stad Essen (met die dag verder o.a. Grand Magus en Hell!). Daarna volgen de aankomende week nog een aantal Duitse shows, al weet ik niet of daar nog een optreden bij zit dat niet al te ver van de Nederlandse of Belgische grens verwijderd is. Helaas is het voor mijzelf logistiek onmogelijk om naar een van de resterende concerten op deze tournee te gaan, maar het concert van Blitzkrieg smaakte absoluut naar meer. Hopelijk komt de groep (en/of zusterformatie Satan) de komende jaren nog vaker naar bijvoorbeeld Little Devil of The Rambler toe, net zoals bijvoorbeeld Vicious Rumors dat onderhand een stamgast lijkt te zijn van deze Brabantse rockcafés.

Het optreden van Shadowkeep (dat ik vooraf nog nauwelijks kende) was overigens amusant, met een vocaal sterke en humoristische frontman en zeker ook goede muziek. De band was voor zover ik weet echter wel verantwoordelijk voor de vertraging in het programma, doordat ze problemen hadden met het (last-minute) vervoer naar Nederland. Ik zag ook geen merchandise van de band liggen, waar ik anders best interesse voor had gehad. De andere twee formaties heb ik niet gezien, omdat ik andere dringende bezigheden had en 's middags reeds op Facebook meekreeg dat de optredens later zouden beginnen dan vooraf was aangekondigd. Dus ik heb eerst thuis wat dingen afgemaakt en ben later vertrokken. Maar ik zal de voorgaande cd's van Shadowkeep binnenkort eens checken en bovendien in de gaten houden of en wanneer volgend jaar een nieuwe plaat verschijnt, zoals hun teruggekeerde originele (Belgische?) zanger tijdens het concert beloofde.

Dat alles uitliep lag niet aan de bands en de organisatie; de PA mensen waren helaas veel te laat waardoor de soundcheck flink uitliep.....Zouden zelfs om 24:00 uur moeten stoppen maar ik heb het nog kunnen rekken tot 00:30 uur. Maar wel balen voor de treingangers.....
